Mountain Dulcimer
Beginning mountain dulcimer
For the new or nearly new player. Learn to strum two chords while singing (or while the teacher sings) and play fun beginner tunes in the Dadd tuning. Bring a flat pick, instrument, and a sense of fun.
Beginning mountain dulcimer II
This class will continue building on skills taught in the beginning MD class, but is also open to students who feel they are neither a rank beginner or an intermediate student. You should have experience playing a simple tune or two. Learn a third chord for accompaniment, and how to apply a strum pattern in some familiar melodies. Bring a pick, instrument and a sense of adventure.
Transpose songs from any key
You don't have to retune to play your favorite music. There is an easy way to transpose any song to DAD. We will discuss finding the melody and then how to fill in the chords to go with it.
Left Hand Work for Strummers and Pickers
The left hand work is key to any playing. We will talk about fingerings for ease in getting from one chord to another and getting up and down the fretboard with ease and speed. Full chords and partial chords will be discussed. We will be playing some examples of different left hand styles.
Celtic Slow Airs
These are my favorites. The Celtic Airs are beautiful. I will have a few different styles to show you from fully chorded ones to what I call finger fun tunes. I will have beginning and intermediate parts and also some easy harmony.
Chords Are Your Friends
When I started playing every class I went to handed me a chord sheet. I always thought there must be an easier way to tell the names of the chords than by memory. Then I took lessons from a lady that showed me chord shapes and when I started teaching I noticed that certain fingers/strings in each chord tell you the name of the chord. This course is designed for beg-adv if you don't know your chords well. I always ran from chord classes thinking it would be hard but when I finally stood still long enough I found out that chords really are your friends. I could play lots of songs but only from paper. Knowing your chords helps you to branch out and do your own music and know which chords will work.
The Quiet Side of the Dulcimer
I love the peaceful quiet side of the dulcimer. Often found in the hymns and in the airs, the harp like sound of the dulcimer lends itself perfectly to quiet peaceful playing. Dulcimer does mean Sweet Sound so we will work on some songs that do have a sweet sound.
